Doing Less and Being Better
I have been a citizen of the "doing a lot nation" for a long time. In high school, I was a member of dozens of clubs, played sports and managed to have a thriving social life. In college, I worked 3 jobs, DJ'ed every weekend, ran a weekly entertainment magazine and--oh yeah--I went to school. Things didn't slow down for me after college - I ran a nightclub, a record store and a distribution company while producing/remixing music in my spare time.I am used to doing a lot.
In the last six years, I began to discover what doing a lot is costing me. Here is the price I have paid for doing a lot:
* "I'm tired" became my middle name
* Nothing got my undivided energy and attention
* I was good at a lot of things, but not great at anything
* My relationships suffered as my mood was often up and down
More than anything, I sacrificed being better for doing more. I knew that things had to change.
So I dropped everything from my plate except coaching. I immersed myself in it. I learned everything I needed to know to become successful. I made a full commitment to being the best coach I can be. I made a full commitment to being the best entrepreneur I can be. And I made the commitment to being the best ME I can be. And it has certainly paid off.
So where are you choosing to do more rather than choosing being better at something you really want to succeed in? What can you say NO to right now in your life or business?
